Did you know?

  • Caregivers provide care and assistance for spouses, children, parents, and other extended family members and friends who need support due to age, disabling medical conditions, chronic injury, long term illness or disability.
  • Approximately one in four Canadians is a caregiver for an elderly family member or friend.
  • According to Health Canada, caregivers are both young and old, and are predominately female.
  • Almost one in five working Canadians are responsible for both childcare and eldercare.
  • Caregivers can be responsible for a range of activities when caring for a loved one, including assisting with personal care, managing end of life (palliative) care, or overseeing financial and legal affairs.
  • There are more resources available for caregivers now than ever before, ranging from needs assessments, nursing visits, homemaking services, meal programs and transportation services.
