Do you eat breakfast everyday, or do you tend to skip it? How do you eat to stay satisfied through the morning? (or at least until a snack!)
I'm in a bit of a breakfast rut and looking for some fresh new ideas that aren't too much work for a weekday morning.
Breakfast is so important, and being pregnant, I'm especially conscious of eating well in the morning. I'm looking for yummy inspiration... especially since I'm missing my morning brew! Apparently a good breakfast helps curb food cravings and overeating too... I can certainly relate to that these days!
I like some of these Breakfast on the Go ideas from Food Network Canada - thinking of trying some of the recipes for smoothies or parfaits...
What do you eat in the morning?

Thanks for inspired ideas, everyone! Of course, I am now craving oatmeal, pancakes, parfait.... yum!
I guess we're in the same boat! I tried oatmeal for the first time a few months ago and now I have a bowl (with cinnamon and brown sugar or honey) almost every morning. I usually mix in a sliced banana as well for added sweetness. It's delicious AND nutritious!
Christine,
Breakfast and I have had an interesting relationship over the years. We have been on and off again. However, over the last many years we have had a strong relationship that ensures I don't over-eat later in the day! And like Victoria, breakfast helps to ward off the grumpies. The key to my success...easy and quick options.
Staple breakfast menu options:
Whole grain toast, peanut butter and banana - you can't go wrong with this classic option (I keep the required ingredients in my office). Once you can drink java again (post-pregnancy), this is a perfect option to pair with a steaming cup 'o joe.
Muffins - making my own healthy, whole grain and fruit muffins saves the day. I cut down on the fat content and processed nature of store bought options by baking a big batch every couple of weeks.
Fruit parfait - this is my favourite option. Pair some low fat cottage cheese, with your favourite yogurt and fruits. I make fruit salad at the start of each week and that makes this option super fast. If you don't like cottage cheese (essential for protein in your diet) don't worry. The yogurt will mask the taste and you will still get the nutritional benefits. Add some walnuts and you are in nutrition and culinary heaven.
Whole wheat blueberry pancakes: Nutritious and easy to freeze. That way you can pop them out, heat them and you are set in a few minutes. Using frozen blueberries (or other fruit) in the winter adds a little zing!
I hope one of those ideas inspires you.......
Happy eating,
Nicole
