Mental Health and Mental Illness in Children and Youth: Fact Sheet for Parents and Caregivers

We really like this new pamphlet by our friends at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) about what parents and caregivers need to know about kids' mental health. It's thorough, easy to understand, and includes graphics and what mental health and mental illness means from a child's point of view.
It outlines common mental health problems in children and youth, prevention tips, strategies for coping, and addresses "What should we do if we think our child has a mental health problem?"
This resource is reviewed by the Mental Health Information Committee at CHEO and by members of the Child and Youth Mental Health Information Network (www.cymhin.ca). Comments and suggestions from children, youth and families on the CHEO Family Forum further strengthened this document.
