Ahh, summer. A time of vacations, relaxation, and time away from the stresses of daily life to enjoy the sun, and if you're like me, a beach or two.
But what if you're a caregiver, caring for a spouse, parent, other family member or friend? Someone at home or long-distance who is elderly, frail, chronically ill or has special needs? When do you get support and a break to care for yourself?
We've assembled some resources and practical tips to help family caregivers recognize caregiver stress and burnout, and ways to practice self care:
Family Caregivers Network Society: Information package for Family Caregivers (Click on the link to download a free PDF, which includes several self care tips)
Self Care for Caregivers: MS Society of Canada, Deborah DeCairos Grandmaitre M.Ed.,CCC (PDF - additional focus on caring for someone with MS)
Caregiver Tips: The Caregiver Information Centre, a project of the Saskatoon Council on Aging Inc.
Caring for Yourself: Alzheimer Society of British Columbia
